Quoting Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO, DataWind, “We would be launching 10-inch devices in the budget category for customers to be able to own these devices for the same price they now pay for a 7-inch device by most of other brands. These devices would be introduced in the Rs 5,000 to Rs 5,500 category and some of these tablets will also feature voice-calling capabilities. We plan to make an announcement on these products after six weeks from now,”
DataWind’s policies are very clear, they target a huge set of the population with their price tags much lower than their competitor’s, as we saw with Aakash Tablet, unlike other manufacturers which target only a particular set of people. By launching these devices at low price tags, they aim to provide larger set of people the access to internet. Apart from working on the fore mentioned devices, he also said that DataWind are working on free-Internet mobile devices to provide the Indian users internet access without having to pay subscription fees for data. On the software front, Datawind have launched their own app store with the Ubislate 7C+ and they would be featuring this in their future models as well. With the devices priced low, DataWind plan to generate revenues through app developers via their own app store. The DataWind Aakash tablet was the lowest priced tablet at its time and it managed to create huge interest in the Indian market, and with the upcoming tablets DataWind would like to recreate the interest and attention.
