In an exclusive interview to GadgetsToUse, OPPO India CEO Tom Lu, confirmed that OPPO R1 will be launched by March – April 2014 with a price tag in the range of 25,000 INR to 30,000 INR. The phone has already been listed on OPPO’s India website and was also showcased at the launch Event. Let’s take a look at the spec sheet of this phone. The Oppo R1 features a 5 inch display with 720p HD resolution. The IPS LCD multi touch display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which makes it extremely resistant to abuse. The processor employed is 1.3 GHz Quad core MT6582 processor which is more pronounced in the budget quad core segment. The chipset doesn’t match the price tag. Other chipset features include 1 GB RAM and 16 GB non expandable storage, which again are not quite impressive. The primary f/2.0 aperture 8 MP camera at the back is capable of full HD 1080p video recording and a front camera with 5 MP sensor is also present for video calling. On the software front OPPO will offer Color OS based on Android 4.2 jelly bean. The battery capacity is 2410 mAh and OPPO has not yet specified the backup you can extract from the device. Connectivity features include 3G HSPA+, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS with AGPS support. The built quality and looks are pretty good and will rank above most other MT6582 devices, but again the chipset is nothing to boast about in this price range. We expect the OPPO R1 price to come down eventually which will make the device better value for money option – something much appreciated in Indian Market.
